Creating a Livery Mod

A livery mod is a JSON file plus one or more PNG images.

1. Overview

At runtime the game:

  1. Downloads your mod from mod.io (once the player subscribes).
  2. Reads a manifest.json in your mod.
  3. Loads the PNG(s) it points to.
  4. Paints the texture onto the matching car in the garage/mechanic.

A single mod can contain one livery, or many — even liveries for several different cars.

What a mod contains:

my-livery-mod.zip
├── manifest.json ← required, must be named exactly this
├── sunset_racer.png ← your livery texture(s)
├── desert_camo.png
├── desert_camo_preview.png ← your livery icon
└── sunset_racer_preview.png

Just testing, or keeping it private? You can also load liveries from a local folder on your machine without uploading anything to mod.io. See Section 10 — Local liveries (no upload).
